pushing my self in stop mo

This was definitely one of the most frustrating things ive done in stop motion. I really don't understand how Oli gets his pieces so smooth, maybe I'm following the reference too closely but it looks quite a bit shaky to me. I couldn't finish it in one day so i left to come back the next day which wasn't really that smart of me as it took me so long to get back to where i left off and finish off the remained of the bar sheet. The end piece i would say is quite accurate the reference but it definitely could be better. Stop mo really does hurt me but i know it helps.

Trying to give triangles life

I knew Chris was going to be in the afternoon lecture and i hadnt gotten much round to doing any character designs for script to screen, mainly because they were traingles and i didn't think it would be too difficult. When i got round to it i was struggling to give the characters personality and they just looked really flat. I experimented with creating more complicated designs using a verity of triangles but because the story i had in mind was light hearted and comedic i thought it'd be best to keep with a more cartoonty simple style. Howver i was still left with the problem of the designs looking lifeless When lecture came about chris thought it'd be best to go back to basics and focus on gesture lines and had us in groups create actions and to draw them out. I enjoyed working with my group, but talking to people after class it seemed like half the class didn't enjoy it which kind of baffled me Near the end of class i got chris to look at my des

Sherm Cohen - Story boarding genius

Johnny recomendded watching this hour long video on storyboarding and i think annabeth did also, at first i was dreadding watching the whole thing but suprisingly i enjoyed the whole thing and was very disapointed that the final fifteen minutes were him selling his course. nonetheless this video explained susticntly a fanstasitc way of approaching a story board, as well as taking notes throughout the video, i also tried to copy along with the sketches he was doing. This blog is just a summary of the 7 points he made.        1.  Stepping foward -         Firstly he explains that your storyboard should follow 'film grammar' a type of progression of shots that have shown to be effective in captivating audiences. He does state that it is a pattern and not a perscription. The shots he mentions are: Establing shot (where we are) Full shot  Medium shot  close up  These shots are trypically used to show a furthing of a story. He calls this 'Stepping f

Aleatoric resonance

Aleatoric/Aleatory Coined by the German professor Werner Meyer-Eppler, who was a strong promoter for electronic music in the 1950’s while looking at the statistical shaping of sounds. Pull in maya

I found this exercise to be the easiest. I had the problem of having the arms and the table move at teh same time, so i thought the best solution would be to group them together with the arms in IK mode. The way i pulled the table back in my reference was perhaps abnormal but in essence it was a reverse walk.

walking in maya

The strikes are really effecting us students. So many people from class don't know what to do or how to do the work. Luckily Johnny posted a handout on blackboard for walking and with the timing challenge he had asked us to do i had an idea of how to approach this challenge so i went in the steps that he instructed. Starting with sliding and then adding the y movement and finally rotation. hips and head would be last thing i would add. Following the hand out was quite confusing especially considering that Johnny hadn't gone through it with the class by the time I had a go at it.

Posing in Maya

But anyway as Maya has been for me i find it quite natural and easy to mess around with. Johnny came in on us working on it after lecture with a foundation studend i regret not making more of effort to make her feel welcomed and i should be making more of an effort to get to knwo the other years. Posing on Maya and in stop mo looks pretty easy, kind of just like playing with a toy. I didn't intend on doing anything after lecture but Adam being the beautiful man he is , convinced me to stay and get a bit of work done. Obviously me being me i decided to do the more difficult poses first and it was going great until one pose that defeated me and i gave up on the rest. Bucket-kids legs are just fucking stupid and he cant really kneel so that angered me greatly. Maya seems pretty natural so far and i banged out the other pose with ease, definitely because i didn't have to piss around with the legs. Johnny recommendation of always putting bucket-kid back to neutral before

Script to screen - Briefing

A replacement module for creative play, but we'll be working alone which might be better or worse who knows. I think it'll be better as i wont be waiting on other people and I know if i create a story i care about i'll be working my ass off to get it to the best of my ability. requirements for this module  Production bible 1 animatic The limitations set to us are that the characters are in one environment and have two main characters focusing on a problem. I need to ask if these can be slightly fudged, such as a large environment with more than one location and secondary characters with small roles. Annabeth mentioned that there are certain things we should try to do to improve our work and in turn get a better grade such as animation reviews and breakdowns. One of the reasons why i love annabeth is that she shows us some great and insiprational videos. I know that everyone was blown away by the antman animatic as they should cos it was fucking amazing. as

Redoing the thumbs for the fables

I had lost my bag a few months ago which had a small sketchbook containing my post stick thumbnails. Theses are even rougher iterations of the tale the Old lion and the fox, which teaches to learn from others misfortunes.  I had done a full shot and scene breakdown of the story, following Sherm Cohens video on story-boarding and applying correct film grammar. Felt like the story was strong but I've realised that i certainly gave myself way too much to do.  scene 1 the old lion hunts for his prey but get tired instantly and is unable to catch his prey Scene 2 -  the old lion returns to his rock and is still tired. He notices that others are watching and decides to trick them and claims he is dying so they will come visit him  scene 3- some really dumb deers come to visit him. He invites them to have a look in his home. They think its a good idea go inside.   Scene 4 - the fox approaches the lion and asks how he is feeling. The lions states he isn't w
