wilderness walk

i normally give myself far too much to do so i thought for once id keep it simple and focus on a exercise i was comfortable with which was the walk. I animated a simple walk and then adding the extra motions from my reference.

sneaking in maya

using the handout on blackboard, i altered the method slightly and i place my reference instead of an image, i thought this would be a new method instead if using a bar sheet. (don't kill me johnny but it was easier and more effective.) So after following the initial movement, i was quite happy with the result but i thought it would be best to exaggerate the sneak and learn fully about the passing motion. From the survival guide i learned that at point of contact the leg is super stretched out and during the passing movement the moment goes down instead of at its highest as it would be on a normal walk.

weights with mr h

Even with strikes going on I've been trying my best to keep up to date on the tasks so that means for me looking at tutorials. In the last lecture i can remember johnny mentioned sometjhing about using locators but that obvuioiusly made no sense to us. Luckly i found a tutorial on youube because there was absolutly ntohing on lynda regarding weights. The tutorial was quite easy to follow but i can say that i didn't really grasp how to do the locator, the whole process would be really difficult without a tutorial, i think if i had to do it without the tutorial id try my grouping technique that worked with the pull.

pushing my self in stop mo

This was definitely one of the most frustrating things ive done in stop motion. I really don't understand how Oli gets his pieces so smooth, maybe I'm following the reference too closely but it looks quite a bit shaky to me. I couldn't finish it in one day so i left to come back the next day which wasn't really that smart of me as it took me so long to get back to where i left off and finish off the remained of the bar sheet. The end piece i would say is quite accurate the reference but it definitely could be better. Stop mo really does hurt me but i know it helps.

Pull in maya

I found this exercise to be the easiest. I had the problem of having the arms and the table move at teh same time, so i thought the best solution would be to group them together with the arms in IK mode. The way i pulled the table back in my reference was perhaps abnormal but in essence it was a reverse walk.

walking in maya

The strikes are really effecting us students. So many people from class don't know what to do or how to do the work. Luckily Johnny posted a handout on blackboard for walking and with the timing challenge he had asked us to do i had an idea of how to approach this challenge so i went in the steps that he instructed. Starting with sliding and then adding the y movement and finally rotation. hips and head would be last thing i would add. Following the hand out was quite confusing especially considering that Johnny hadn't gone through it with the class by the time I had a go at it.

Posing in Maya

But anyway as Maya has been for me i find it quite natural and easy to mess around with. Johnny came in on us working on it after lecture with a foundation studend i regret not making more of effort to make her feel welcomed and i should be making more of an effort to get to knwo the other years. Posing on Maya and in stop mo looks pretty easy, kind of just like playing with a toy. I didn't intend on doing anything after lecture but Adam being the beautiful man he is , convinced me to stay and get a bit of work done. Obviously me being me i decided to do the more difficult poses first and it was going great until one pose that defeated me and i gave up on the rest. Bucket-kids legs are just fucking stupid and he cant really kneel so that angered me greatly. Maya seems pretty natural so far and i banged out the other pose with ease, definitely because i didn't have to piss around with the legs. Johnny recommendation of always putting bucket-kid back to neutral before...

airplane and sitting in maya

I thought posing in maya would be a straight forward process but oh how wrong i was. I struggled so much with the key-frames and i couldn't for the life of me figure out what the issue was. I would set a pose and then move to the next on a different frame and the initial pose would become totally messed up. I had this same problem with most of my first attempts and i still don't really know why. My best guess is that i didn't key frame the first pose correctly and that what caused the problem.   2nd attempt but as you can see he spins around for reason This is a much better attempt but the shoulders decide to do an odd rotation.

Posing in stop mo

Last minute munty as per usual and i hadn't done the poses asked of us till the morning of the lecture on the bus. The poses that i had found from life drawing were definitely the most effective at translating the emotion. I really need to get in the habit of creating my own references instead of looking online.   I've put 102 on the highest of my priorities as i wasn't too happy with the outcomes i produced for last years module. Maybe because were using characters now im enjoying the process a bit more. I dont want to tell joe this cos i feel like he'll cry about using block and i understand the qualities it teaches. I'm trying to use that idea in my script to screen by having my characters be just trianges. playing with the armature was pretty funny. i wish i had a toy like this when i was a kid, who knows i might of got into making my own stop mos. But the poses were easy to do, i did make a discovery in the difference between anger and happiness lies in...

Emotion to emotion - Stop mo

Joe flying solo in todays lecture while johnny on strike. Respect Joe for coming in an trying to help those who turned up. He inspired me to start to work on another stop mo piece, i was feeling a bit dumb cos i wanted to show him the sit and stand up i did with Poli, but i didnt have it with me. I always have problems and struggles in stop motion and it makes me cry cry on the inside. I'm trying to be more detirmined in my work and i think today was is a good example. I got paige to record me acting out the transisitions between emotions and i think i did a good job. I liked the way i aproached the bar sheet even though i dont think Joe or Johnny would approve. Instead of taking aboiut an hour before hand and analyising the video and meticuously working my through the video i had the reference open in premier and i broke down the footage one second at a time and working through as i moved along. I found it a more natural process and i personally prefered it, giving a similar if ...
