MAF- Volunteering

The fraud is here

Genuinely did not expect to get a place at MAF but you wont hear me complaining. At the briefing session i felt so out of place as i felt all these artsy farsty people knew far more than i was. With Anijam screening later on the week and we were asked if we had an animation that was going to screened, obviously i mentioned Flock together and felt like a fraud when people congratulated me. Well I guess its always good to make a good first impression. I did feel tho that was exposed when screening was shown and my clips were so horrible and pixilated because i had done it in the wrong resolution and in Photoshop. Maybe it wasn't noticeable on the phone but when blown up it looks horrendous, but we still won an award so again i cant complain, even though Adam wanted that judges award too.

I do think i let the team down but i learned so much from them two days and i cant really express how grateful i am that they let this fraud work with them.

MAF was great overall although i was standing and sitting a lot of the time and would of wanted to be doing more jobs. Met some lovely people, although i didn't go with the mindset of networking more just to get a feel of the industry and the people around it, perhaps if i had a strong show reel to show i would of been more inclined to network. I got to watch a lot of animations even though i was all animation-ed out i left with a deep feeling of inspiration and motivation.

The movie Tito and the birds i found really relevant my group project, i thought the animation was great and a fine use of cut out rigged animation.

The movie that really surprised me was the french movie about union strikes called A Man is dead. The animation was based on a comic book, although i couldn't tell and only found out about it after. I thought the characters were deep and it made me care for the characters, the animation quality wasn't as good, still a high standard but i was more impressed of the storytelling.

I had a great experience and am definately applying next year again this time armed with an amazing showreel.

Furthering into perspective

Im coming closer to realisation that storyboarding is a field that i want to keep exploring. This past semester we been tasked with a range of different mediums and techniuiqes which has been super challenging, requiring me to learn something new. The only problem I've had is that I get so tired from the research, I dont have the power to work and produce work I'm happy with. This is a minor problem as i know over time i'll become way more adpet and will have a much smoother workflow. I can say though that because of all this research time, I fallen back in love with drawing again. Maybe it has something to do with chris' life drawing classes but im actually drawing for fun again, and this is a feeling that i havent had for year. I'm trying drawing to become my new form of procrastination, because my mind just loves putting off work.  This is a kind of 'procrastinion i did, when i should of been trying to do some modelling in maya i wanted to draw more s...

Animation Context

The first actual lecture of university was what i expected, a briefing of our first module. Most of the lecture consisted of Johnny beating the Gibbs' reflective cycle into our heads. I can see why the university wants us to utilize this type of reflection and I will definitely refer to it when I am first writing up my blogs, but in time i know that i will have each area of the cycle memorized, which can only help in my writing skills and well as my own self analysis. This module is on going throughout the year and we are tasked with writing a magazine article about an aspect of animation we are passionate about. Initially my intimidate thought was to look at the animation technique of One Punch Man as it i know it is a particularly difficult style of animation and i captures movement and speed so vividly. I do believe i should do some wide ranging research and look at other animation techniques that intrigue me.
