At the start of this project I wanted to make sure I was
part of a strong and big team, I didn’t really want a leader role, my main
objectives were to be the story artist and an animator. The starting phase was
all we could of asked for, all of us coming up with great ideas and being able
to come to a final decision quite quickly. After we decided on the bird being
our main character, I went and did multiple tests of different birds learning
the difference between their fight patterns. When the story was finalized, I went
on to the story-boarding which was a great experience and it was a process I love
as I got the creative freedom to come up with shots and create the first iteration
of our animation, the final animation is a close following of the storyboard
which pleased me so much. I thought I chose I great group, and the potential we
had was incredible however the groups decline started with Jolanta dropping out
and at the time she was our art director. This left a hole in the group and
with Alisha never present the load of work was greatly increased the other team
members, mainly Elena and Aidan. I think adding Aidan to the group was a key
part of its success as he is quite disciplined and offered to do a lot of jobs
and came through on them. Elena was the backbone of the team and we all would
of failed without her. I did the animations I was given to the best of my
ability as I didn’t want the quality of the animation to suffer because I rushed
the process. I did multiple passes for each shot as from experience I found there’s
no way around it and its much better to gradually build the animation focusing on
the key poses and the timing. I found that if I got these two aspects correct
the rest of the animation would look fluid and smooth. I do feel that I was the
only one who kept the design we had agreed on. The only disappointment I’ll have
is that the bird changes throughout the video, but I did do the majority of the
animations so it should be quite consistent. In conclusion I truly believe that
if the group was whole, and stayed working together we could of created a
master piece. I do think have made a wonderful and ambitious animation and am
more than proud to show it off to whomever I can.
First off I have to start by staying this was definitely the most painful day I've experienced. The unforgiving nature of stop motion angers me to a level I can't understand. I will learn to love this as I can see the benefits and skills it teaches, a real life practical application of timing and spacing. Joe and Johnny always say don't start an animation without planning so I've been strictly abiding by those rules, which tends to mean I spend a good amount of time planning before I even enter the stop motion room. This being my second pendulum animation, I decided it would be best this time to have an actual video reference which was a crude video of a pen swinging from some headphones, I was in a public space so it was a bit embarrassing to record. From the video what I learned was how the pendulum comes to a stop, the swings a short obviously but they are incredibly slow, and moving in other directions rather than just left to right. I did a bar she
