The dude and the dog - group session 3 for 'the city'

we now had our focal point; homelessness in the city. Now the difficult part really began, what was the story of this homeless person. We really wanted to have a strong story with something that left an impact on the viewer, something that made the viewer question something about themselves. I don't think Poli or Maddy were too interested in the script writing, which really saddened me because I thought they had great ideas but I think they were hurt that their ideas were being shot down. My main goal was to have a great group environment where everyone was eager to put their ideas forward even if they weren't used in the end. Because of this the group kind of got broken in half, with me and Indya on pre production and Poli and Maddy on the animating part. Maddy spent this session creating the main characters, a dude and a dog,

Poli also was practicing a walk cycle for the animation. I don't know why but Indya seems to argue more with me when we're in a group, but if we're alone she's lovely to me, I think the arguing scares the rest of the group though, because Poli and Maddy have a look of fear on their face when it happens. Me and Indya spent this group session working out what the scenes would entail, and we were stuck on the first scene. The interaction idea really complicated the whole process but I'm the one who's pushing to keep it in because I think it adds a lot to the viewers experience. We had a lot of ideas for the first scene with one being the character comes over to the camera and just asks you to buy the big issue and explains what it is from there.

Another idea we had was that you don't see the character selling the magazine and but just him homeless begging for money. The idea that animation was based around a conversation I think is another strong message because we live in a city where everyone ignores each other and its difficult to have conversation with a stranger.

With Poli and Maddy no longer in the pre production process I think it's important that I keep what key values they wanted most in the animation. For Maddy it was the dog, so I think giving the dog a role in the animation is really important. For Poli making sure the animation is positive was most important to her.

Furthering into perspective

Im coming closer to realisation that storyboarding is a field that i want to keep exploring. This past semester we been tasked with a range of different mediums and techniuiqes which has been super challenging, requiring me to learn something new. The only problem I've had is that I get so tired from the research, I dont have the power to work and produce work I'm happy with. This is a minor problem as i know over time i'll become way more adpet and will have a much smoother workflow. I can say though that because of all this research time, I fallen back in love with drawing again. Maybe it has something to do with chris' life drawing classes but im actually drawing for fun again, and this is a feeling that i havent had for year. I'm trying drawing to become my new form of procrastination, because my mind just loves putting off work.  This is a kind of 'procrastinion i did, when i should of been trying to do some modelling in maya i wanted to draw more s...

Performance & Charcter - Run, Climb, Jump, Pickup and Throw

Chased First week back and we've already been tasked with a challenging animation, which consists of a run into the character climbing a wall, then jumping down, and after the character lands they then pick up an item and throw it. Joe and Johnny spent the majority of the class talking about acting and performance which is obvious considering the title of the course. Johnny was advertising his favourite author Desmond Morris, which he recommend for my context essay last year which I obviously didn’t read but johnny previewed chapters on gesture and posing which really caught my interest. What I did read was the book by Ed Hooks, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading that. We don’t have to have the animation finished for this week but I think it would be best to get a head of the work instead of letting it pile up. The work we do have to have done for this week is creating the biography of the character, bar sheets and story board. Joe was very clear in his explanation of...

Belbin - Making of

Belbin roles - Making a balanced team  Going into this session, I still hadn't decided on which group i want to join but Annabeth said it should be decided by the end of this session. I had offers from a few groups but decided to join up with Jolanta, Elena and Alisha as i knew i wanted to another attempt at a 2-D group project and i felt like this team had good chemistry and was full of talented artists. Annabeth explained Belbin roles to us and how these 9 personalities make a strong balanced team.  When going through the Belbin roles i found that these four applied best to me;   Monitor Evaluator  -  I feel this suits me well as i know that the critical side of my brain is over developed and have always thought i had sound judgement when it came to decision making. Working very slowly resonated too deeply and is something I'm trying to work on. Team Worker -  I feel that my social relation when working in a group is always good,...
